"Grow little broccoli (or other vegetable), grow!" has been our mantra for the past couple weeks now. Finally our first seedlings have sprouted!

Red Orach

 Gotte Jaune D'or Lettuce

We had to set up a second grow station out in our garage as we ran out of living room space. We turn the heat lamp on at night when we turn off the grow light, to give the plants a little warmth in the chilly garage.

Such tasty.... I mean, ADORABLE babies.

 Lollo Rossa Lettuce

Rubin Lettuce

I've especially enjoyed watching the little lettuces grow. It's pretty interesting how they all start out looking pretty much the same, but as they grow, you start to notice all the little differences and characteristics; color, shape and texture changes, specific to their variety. Kind of like fetuses. That one's for you Jos :-P

 Dear Living Room,

You have been my faithful home throughout the winter.
You warmed my backside by your wood stove through those long cold nights. You held me in your big red couch cushions, even when I gained a few pounds from lack of exercise. You encouraged me as I plotted and schemed for the future. Thank you.

But it is time for us to part ways.

You see, I've found someone new. Outdoors. He caresses my skin with warm sunshine, and his grassy ground is like soft shag carpet between my toes.

Maybe I'll be back in 10 months. In the meantime, let me move all your furniture around, and I hope you don't mind if I keep my seed starting table here while I'm gone.
